The science behind "Air Root
Pruning"
As a new lateral root comes in
contact with the porous container wall, the air in
the soil dehydrates the root tip, pruning it and stimulating
root branching back to the tree's original stem. As
each new root finds its way to the container wall,
the process is repeated and the tree rapidly develops
a massive outward pointing (non-circling) fibrous
root system.
